Zero words. Every product description is empty. 25% AI visibility.

Horizn Studios has literally zero words on every product page — yet achieves 25% AI visibility driven entirely by editorial coverage on Gemini. The paradox of brand without data.

Executive Summary

  • Brand: Premium Berlin-founded smart luggage, vegan hard-shell materials, EUR 290-460, featured in Conde Nast Traveller, GQ, Monocle
  • AI visibility score: 37/150 tests surfaced the brand (25%)
  • The pattern: Every product description is empty — yet editorial coverage drives 50% visibility on Gemini. The most extreme editorial-without-data case in the audit set
  • Key competitor gap: Away is the DTC luggage default; Rimowa owns luxury; Samsonite dominates specification queries
  • Root cause: Zero words in body_html on every product page. No aggregateRating despite 418 Trustpilot reviews at 4.5/5
  • Fix complexity: Unusually low — starting from zero means no bad copy to fix, just descriptions to write

The brand

Horizn Studios is a premium direct-to-consumer luggage brand founded in Berlin, Germany. The brand positions as "smart luggage" with a design-forward, sustainability-focused identity. They use vegan hard-shell materials and target the design-conscious European traveller who reads Monocle and Conde Nast Traveller.

The editorial presence is strong — featured in multiple "best luggage" roundups by Conde Nast Traveller, GQ, Monocle, and other design and travel publications. This editorial footprint is the primary driver of whatever AI visibility the brand has, because the product pages themselves contain nothing.

The test

We ran 150 automated browser-based tests using Playwright — 10 repeats × 5 queries × 3 platforms (ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot). Queries targeted Horizn Studios' positioning: European smart luggage, lightweight cabin suitcase, hard-shell carry-on, sustainable luggage, and Berlin-based luggage brands.

Gemini calls Horizn Studios "the most famous contemporary Berlin brand." On the Berlin query, Gemini surfaces it in 90% of runs at position #1. On the European smart luggage query, 80% at #1. On sustainable luggage, 80% citing the Circle One biodegradable suitcase. Gemini has absorbed the editorial coverage thoroughly.

Specification queries score 0/60 across all platforms. "Lightweight cabin under £300" and "hard-shell carry-on for frequent flyers" — zero surfacings across 60 combined tests. These queries require weight, dimensions, and feature data. Horizn Studios has none. Competitors like Samsonite, Away, and Monos dominated with specific specs.

ChatGPT does not know a Berlin brand is from Berlin. A Berlin-founded brand, well-documented across editorial content, scores 0/10 on ChatGPT for "best Berlin-based luggage brands." Copilot actually expressed doubt: "Horizn Studios (Founded in Berlin? — Note: Not found in the search results)."

Identity queries drive all visibility; specification queries drive none. When AI agents are asked "who" (European, Berlin, sustainable), editorial coverage answers. When asked "what" (weight, dimensions, features), empty product pages have nothing.

Why this is happening

Every single product has zero words in body_html. Not thin descriptions. Not marketing fluff. Literally nothing. The Shopify body_html field — what crawlers and AI agents read — is completely empty across every product tested. The product page is a visual experience — images and a buy button — with zero text content for crawlers.

Tags are doing the job descriptions should be doing. Tags like "Cabin (55cm)", "Vegan Hard Shell", "Cloud Rose", and "Essential" provide classification. But tags are metadata, not content. AI agents cannot construct a recommendation from tags alone.

No aggregateRating despite 418 Trustpilot reviews at 4.5/5. Strong social proof exists externally but is not reflected in on-site structured data. AI agents see products with no review data.

Sustainability credentials exist only in editorial coverage. Gemini cites the Circle One biodegradable suitcase and recycling programme — information from editorial sources, not product pages. None of this is on the site.

What Horizn Studios could do, in priority order

Phase 1 (quick wins):

  • Write product descriptions for every product — dimensions (cm), weight (kg), volume (litres), materials, airline compatibility, trip length guidance, sustainability credentials. Target 200-400 words per product. Starting from zero is perversely simpler than fixing bad data
  • Add aggregateRating to JSON-LD using the Trustpilot 4.5/5 data

Phase 2 (medium effort):

  • Expand tags with feature attributes: weight_class, trip_length, features (spinner-wheels, TSA-lock), sustainability (vegan, recycled-materials)
  • Add additionalProperty fields to JSON-LD: weight, dimensions, volume, material, warranty
  • Create an airline compatibility page listing H5 dimensions against European airline limits

Phase 3 (longer term):

  • Claim and build the Trustpilot profile — 418 reviews likely unclaimed
  • Create comparison content: H5 vs H6 vs H7, Horizn Studios vs Away vs Rimowa
  • Build the sustainability story on product pages — "Vegan Hard Shell" should be a selling point with context, not just a tag

Close

Horizn Studios is the audit's paradox brand. Zero words on every product page, yet 25% AI visibility. The editorial presence in Conde Nast Traveller, GQ, and Monocle creates a safety net that catches the brand on Gemini. But that net only works on one platform and only for identity queries. Ask "who makes good European luggage?" and Gemini has the answer. Ask "what does it weigh?" and every platform draws a blank. The fix is unusually straightforward — there is no bad copy to rewrite, no conflicting data to reconcile. Every product needs descriptions written from scratch. The blank page is, for once, the easiest starting point.
